West Point Welcomes New Commandant

WEST POINT – The Chief of Staff of the Army announced that Brig. Gen. Mark C. Quander will be the next Commandant of Cadets at the U.S. Military Academy.

Quander graduated from West Point in 1995 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering; a Master of Science from the University of Missouri for Science and Technology in Engineering Management; a Master of Arts from Georgetown University in Public Policy; and a master’s in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.

Quander is an Engineer officer who has been a leader at the strategic and tactical levels. He has three combat deployments that include Operation Enduring Freedom in 2002 and 2011; Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007; and an earthquake humanitarian aid mission to Haiti as a part of Operation Unified Response in 2010.

He is currently serving as the Commandant of the U.S. Army Engineer School at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and will replace Brig Gen. Curtis A. Buzzard later this year.
