Army Drops Game Two of Series at N.C. Central

DURHAM, N.C. – The Army baseball team got on the board first, but just could not get the bats going, falling 8-1 to N.C. Central in game two of the series at the Durham Athletic Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Knights (0-2) who were held to just three hits on the day, wasted no time getting on the board first as Jeremiah Adams singled home Anthony Giachin to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

After that it was all N.C. Central (2-0), who scored eight unanswered runs on five hits and were helped by an Army fielding error as well.

Patrick Melampy got the start and he tossed 5.0 complete innings, allowing three runs (only one earned) with just one hit allowed. He walked two and had six strikeouts, but was a bit wild, hitting three batters.

N.C. Central took the lead back quickly, scoring two in the bottom of the first inning. They added a second run against Melampy in the fourth inning, but it was a big fifth inning off reliever Gresham that broke things open.

Freshmen pitchers Trevor Finan and Joel Rubin also made their debuts in relief efforts, holding N.C. Central scoreless down the stretch.

In addition to Adams’ RBI single, Carter Macias and Kevin Dubrule also had hits on the day.
