Army Black Knights Shut Out American, 5-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Army West Point women’s soccer defeated American University on the road on Saturday afternoon, 5-0, their biggest margin of victory this season.

The 5-0 road win is the largest margin of victory for the Black Knights since a 5-0 victory over Rhode Island on Sept. 15, 2003.

Erynn Johns led the way on the day, finishing with two goals and one assist. Erlise Urkov was also involved in three goals, tallying two assists and one finish of her own.

The Black Knights started off the scoring with a goal off the foot of freshman Kaitlin Palaian in the 11th minute of play.

They then took a 2-0 lead as Urkov tallied her second goal of the spring in the 16th minute of play.

Urkov assisted on the next goal of the day, this one by Johns in the 30th minute to push the lead to 3-0.

Alyssa Carfagno got in on the action in the 78th minute as Johns slotted it in and Carfagno finished with the nifty back heel.

Up 4-0, Johns connected on her second goal of the game, this one in the 87th minute off a cross from Urkov from the right side and she was able to find the back of the net to make it a 5-0 victory.

American did tally five corner kicks to Army’s four and had six shots on the day, but goalkeeper Sydney Cassalia tallied her third clean sheet of the spring, making just one save on the day.

Army is set to return to West Point to host Holy Cross on Friday, March 26 at 6 p.m.
