Marist Tennis Snags a Win Over Foe Niagara

WILLIAMSVILLE – Marist Women’s Tennis captured a 4-3 victory over MAAC foe Niagara on Friday evening at the Village Glen Tennis Courts.

The Red Foxes earn their first win of the season, while the Purple Eagles fall to 2-3 in

conference and 3-6 overall.
Doubles
Marist collected the doubles point with wins in the top two flights.

Senior captain Julia Gabay partnered with graduate Kat Muzik, who appeared in her first match as a Red Fox, in the first spot to sweep Elena Mayet and Megan Gamble 6-0.

In the second flight, senior captain Sam Galu and freshman Deana Giambo notched a 6-3 victory over Erika Gonzalez and Kirah Regales.

Senior captain Sophia Chavarria and freshman Jane Bockman provided a tough matchup, but ultimately fell 7-5 to Madigan Humiston and Coral Rodriguez in the third position.

Singles
Muzik captured the first set 7-6 (7-3), then overpowered Olga Donchu 6-2 in the second for a win in the top flight.

In No. 2, Gabay dispatched Mayet in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-2.

Giambo operated out of the third flight in her first-career match, and recorded a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Rodriguez.

After falling 3-6 in the opening set, Bockman and Jaida Borg played a close second set in the fourth spot. Bockman fell 6-7 (6-8) to secure Niagara’s point.

Chavarria dropped a 1-6, 0-6 decision to Gonzalez in the fifth flight.

In the sixth position, Galu lost to Regales 4-6, 4-6.
