Mount Track Team Closes Out Season Strong

FARMINGDALE – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Track and Field team had a strong showing on Sunday at the 2021 Skyline Conference Outdoor Championship, earning a runner-up finish with 182 points. Samantha Papadopoulos had a big day for the Knights winning a trio of events on the day.

Samantha Papadopoulos continued her dominance of the hurdle events on Sunday, winning both the 100 and 400-meter events for the third time this season to go along with a victory in the Long Jump. Papadopolous took the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 19.74 seconds before besting the field in the 400-meter event in 1:17.71. Papadopoulos’ win in the Long Jump came with a mark of 4.78 meters. She closed out an impressive day for the Knights with runner-up finishes in both the Triple and High Jumps on Sunday.

Allie Salamone also had a strong day for the Knights, winning the Shot Put and adding runner-up finishes in the Hammer Throw and Discus. Salamone won the Shot Put with a mark of 11.03 meters while showing a mark of 35.65-meters in the Hammer Throw and 34.81-meters in the Discus.

Mount Saint Mary also received strong showings on Sunday from Cyan Scott, Jessica Kerrigan, Alexandra Steinberg and Alexis Papadopoulos. Scott collected a victory in the High Jump on Sunday with a mark of 1.40 meters, Kerrigan finished second in both the 100-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles with Steinberg taking third place in the 400-meters. Alexis Papadopoulos took third place for the Knights in the 100 and 200-meters. Valerie Lupi collected a third place showing for Mount Saint Mary in the Javelin on Sunday.

The Knights took third place in a pair of relay events on Sunday with the 4×100-meter team of Kerrigan, Jenna Zeller, Steinberg and A. Papadopoulos posting a time of 58.63 seconds and the 4×400-meter until of Joanne Kubat, Steinberg, Salamone and Christina Kakavas showing a time of 5:01.77.

Farmingdale State won the team event with 194 points, following by the Knights with 182.

The United States Merchant Marine Academy finished third with 164 points with Manhattanville taking the fourth position with 14 tallies.
