Cheney to Challenge Serino in State Senate Race

RHINEBECK – Businesswoman and farmer Jamie Cheney of Rhinebeck, Monday, announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the 41st State Senate District. Republican Sue Serino of Hyde Park currently represents the district.

State legislature elections are not until November of next year.

“As we’ve watched our community struggle throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, it is clear that Upstate needs leadership and investment to recover and continue building our economy,” Cheney said. “As a small business owner, farmer, and mother to young children, I understand firsthand the hurdles so many families in our community faces this past year as they navigated the uncertainties of the pandemic, and dealt simultaneously working remotely and learning from home.”

Cheney and her husband run Falcon’s Fields, a 60-head farm in Rhinebeck. She also founded Prokanga, a recruiting firm and certified B Corporation (a company that balances profit and purpose), focused on creating flexible roles for working parents. She continues to operate both businesses.

“Senator Sue Serino is the definition of a public official who works hard for her constituents on a 24/7 basis. No one will ever outwork her and no one would be a better representative in her district,” said Dutchess County Republican Chairman Michael McCormack. “She doesn’t play politics and never has. Sue is focused on what matters most to the people she represents and her voice is there for each of them in Albany.”
