Tedeschi Wins MAAC Championship in 10K

By Mike Ferraro

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ – Gianna Tedeschi won the 10,000-meter run to lead the Marist women’s track & field team on the first day of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Tedeschi ran a time of 35:48.34 and prevailed by 20 seconds. The race began right after a soaking run hit.

Alexandra Bartolotta placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:55.73. With the efforts of Tedeschi and Bartolotta, Marist accumulated 18 points as a team on day one, and sits in fifth place.

“I am so happy for Ali and Gianna today,” Coach Chuck Williams said. “Throughout this pandemic they never quit, never stopped working hard, waiting for their opportunity to represent Marist at the highest level. Today they went out and seized their opportunities, despite less than ideal conditions. Ali achieved her highest finish in her MAAC career and Gianna led wire-to-wire to earn her first individual MAAC title in the women’s 10,000-meter run in her final MAAC meet.

“What made this day even more special was the tremendous support from their teammates and level of respect shown to these two women by our fellow MAAC coaches. They both have been at the center of some of the greatest moments in the history of our program these past four years and we look to add to their legacies as they both move on to compete in next weekend’s ECAC Outdoor Championships.”
