POUGHKEEPSIE – City Officials announced today that Paul Calogerakis, the city’s Economic Development Director, will be leaving his post at City Hall and returning to the private sector.
Calogerakis joined the Rolison Administration in 2018. He oversaw the reconstruction of the City’s economic and community development team that had largely eroded by 2016, as a result of the city’s fiscal challenges. He also oversaw the deployment of special assistance for economic development which was awarded by the New York State Financial Restructuring Board, the launch of the city’s new branding “PKGO,” and numerous development projects in the city.
Calogerakis worked tirelessly on important initiatives of the administration, such as the acquisition of the former YMCA building and the reimagining of that property as a Community Center. The former Chair of the city’s Industrial Development Agency, and President and co-founder of the Poughkeepsie Alliance, Calogorakis’ background in banking, finance, and commercial development has spanned more than three decades.
Mayor Rob Rolison said, “Paul has helped this city get back on track. His experience and love for Poughkeepsie has been a key ingredient on our recipe for success, and I am personally grateful not only for his service, but for his friendship.”
Marc Nelson, City Administrator, said, “Paul’s background in commercial banking gave him that entrepreneurial and private sector mindset that is agile, responsive and results-oriented. He also served on both the city’s Common Council and our Planning Board. That rare combination of experience has been a real benefit to our team.”
The City will begin recruitment efforts for a successor immediately, and plans to fill the position by September 1st, 2021.
