Sean Patrick Maloney Says “More Help is Here”

NEWBURGH – Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) stood with local parents and leaders to celebrate the success of the American Rescue Plan and let working parents know that the expanded Child Tax Credit is coming to their mailboxes or banks account soon.

In NY-18, the new Child Tax Credit will help over 128,600 (75.1%) children. Starting July 15, working families will receive advance monthly payments of up to $300 per month, per child through December. This historic tax credit will provide an average benefit of $2,900 for 37,400 households in the district, lifting 7,800 children out of poverty and 2,200 out of deep poverty.

“In just one week, Democrats are rolling out the most significant anti-poverty, family support initiative in American history. This new Child Tax Credit is a game-changer for working families – it’s Social Security for kids. It’s us saying that we value children and families. And it’s us putting our money where our mouth is and supporting working parents,” said Rep. Maloney.
Parents will receive up to $300 a month for kids 5 and younger and up to $250 a month for kids 6 to 17.

· Qualifying families who filed their 2020 tax returns should automatically begin receiving monthly payments on July 15, with no further action required.

· Families who did not file a tax return for 2019 or 2020 and who did not use the IRS Non-filers tool last year to sign up for the Economic Impact Payments, should visit the IRS Child Tax Credit Non-filer Sign-up Tool to sign up.

In March, Rep. Maloney voted to pass the American Rescue Plan Act, which provided critically needed relief for New York’s families, schools, and communities.

Parents in New York’s 18th Congressional District who need assistance signing up or who do not start receiving these monthly payments on July 15 are encouraged to contact Rep. Maloney’s office at 845-561-1259. For more information on the Child Tax Credit, please visit his website.
