National Night Out 2021 is Held in Newburgh

NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh was one of four locations in Orange County that celebrated National Night Out this year. Last year the events were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Broadway between Johnston and Liberty Street was closed to traffic to allow the community to partake in free food, games, and entertainment, while community based organization handed out valuable resource literature and giveaways.

Maritza Wilson, who spearheaded this year’s event said, “It’s so nice to see so many people, especially the youth, out enjoying all that is being offered by community based organizations, law enforcement, the school district… just look around at all the happy faces after the long year of COVID-19 we have all been through.”
