Knights Wins Three Straight in their Opener

BRONX – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Tennis team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 7-2 non-conference victory at Lehman Saturday afternoon. The Knights took two of the three doubles matches and Gracie Monahan clinched the team win with a fourth singles triumph.

The Knights excelled again in doubles play, earning victories at the second and third positions to open an early 2-1 advantage. Katie Murray and freshman Victoria Valencia remained unbeaten on the young season with an impressive 8-3 victory. The third pair of Monahan and Katrina Imperio blanked their opponents 8-0 to improve to a perfect 2-0 on the season.

Julia Flynn stayed unbeaten on the season and in her career on Saturday after battling past her second singles opponent from Lehman. After dropping the first set, Flynn rallied from a 2-5 deficit to even things at 7-5 before taking the tie breaker 10-7. The win improves Flynn to 3-0 on the season and to 9-0 in her career.

Carly Green continued her strong start to the season with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of her opponent at the third singles flight. Green also improves to 3-0 on the season and to 4-3 through the first seven decisions of her career.

Monahan clinched the victory for the Mount with a strong showing at fourth singles, posting a 6-2, 6-1 triumph for the Mount. The win is the first of the season for Monahan through three matches.

Mount Saint Mary received 6-0, 6-0 victories from both Valencia and Imperio at the fifth and sixth position. Valencia improves to 3-0 the year with Imperio collecting her second victory in as many decisions in 2021.

Sunday’s win improves Mount Saint Mary to 3-0 on the season. The Knights will be off until Thursday when they welcome Sage to Newburgh for a non-conference match. Doubles competition is set to get underway at 4:00 p.m.
