The MSMC Blue Knights Ground Gryphons, 5-0

NEWBURGH – Connor Doyle scored his team leading eighth goal while J.C. Lopez, Anthony Guglielmo and David Giraldo all scored for the first time this season in an impressive 5-0 conference victory over Sarah Lawrence Saturday afternoon for the Mount Saint Mary College Men’s Soccer team.

Saturday’s win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 4-5 overall on the season and to 3-1 in league play, while the Gryphons fall to 4-6 and 2-2 in conference action. Saturday’s victory also moves the Mount to 7-0 against Sarah Lawrence since 2014.

First Half
Doyle got the Mount on the board with his eighth of the season and his first game winning goal of the year. He finished off a pass into the box from Matthew Flanagan at 14:16 for the only score the Mount would need.

Lopez followed just over four minutes later when he headed in a free kick started by Matt Wyant in the 19th minute to push the Knights in front 2-0.

The Mount kept the pressure on prior to halftime with a third goal at the 20:55 mark of the contest. Guglielmo received a pass from Wyant and deposited his first of the season to give the Knights a 3-0 cushion.

Second Half
Wyant pushed the Mount in front 4-0 in the 67th minute when he converted his second penalty kick in as many tries on the season at the 66:25 mark of the contest.

Giraldo finished off the scoring in the game in the 83rd minute when he got into the box all alone. After having his initial shot stopped he found the rebound and then the back of the net to give the Mount the final 5-0 advantage.

Mount Saint Mary finished the second half to a 13-3 advantage in shots.

For The Knights
Doyle pushed his team lead in goals to eight and has scored in four straight games for the Knights.

Wyant finished the tilt with four points, scoring his fourth goal and collecting two assists, pushing his team lead in the category to eight.

Guglielmo and Lopez scored for the first time in 2021.

Giraldo tallied for the first time in his career.

Flanagan registered his first point of the season with his assist.

Zach Decker earned his third shutout of the season after making a trio of saves.
The Mount has won back-to-back game, both 5-0 victories, for the first time this season.

For The Gryphons
Fernando Gonzalez led Sarah Lawrence with two shots in the game.

Kian Silva finished with five saves in goal.

Match Statistics
Mount Saint Mary held a commanding 24-6 advantage in shots, including a 12-3 edge in shots on goal.

Corner kicks went to the Knights by a wide 9-1 margin.

The Knights travel to Farmingdale State on Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. kick-off with the Rams.
