Westchester County Passes Out Masks to Schools

PEEKSKILL – Westchester County has partnered with the Westchester County Superintendent’s Association to distribute thousands of child-sized masks at school districts across the County. The mask distribution is part of an ongoing effort by Westchester County to protect children who are not yet eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. This latest stop was at Oakside Elementary School in Peekskill.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said, “We have visited with students across the County who are excited to be back in-person, learning alongside their peers. Until all our children are fully vaccinated, keeping them safe from this virus remains a top priority. We are not out of the woods, just yet. Masks paired with social distancing and hand washing can help. The County’s role is to be a partner with the school district, to provide them with the help they need to protect their students, allowing them to stay on track academically, while in the classroom.”

Peekskill City School Superintendent Dr. David Mauricio said, “On behalf of our Board of Education, staff, students and parents, I would like to thank Westchester County for this donation of reusable masks, and for being an incredible partner to the Peekskill City School District throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a privilege to work alongside these County leaders to keep our communities safe.”

The County has procured more than 200,000 child-sized masks for students up to 12 years old. The Peekskill City School District received 10,000 masks.
