By Mike Ferraro

ST. PAUL, MN – The Marist football team dropped a Pioneer Football League contest at St. Thomas on Saturday, 27-7.

St. Thomas took a 6-0 lead on its first drive on a 51-yard touchdown pass from Cade Sexauer to Max Zimmerman.

On the Tommies’ third possession, Hope Adebayo ran for a 30-yard touchdown.

An errant snap on fourth down on the final play of the first quarter set Marist up at the St. Thomas 2. Austin Day scored a two-yard rushing touchdown on the first play of the second quarter, which cut the Red Foxes’ deficit to 13-7.

Mike Arrington blocked a punt on the next St. Thomas possession, but the Red Foxes came away from their ensuing drive with no points as they did not convert a fourth-and-goal at the St. Thomas 2.

St. Thomas took a 13-7 lead to the locker room.

Sexauer’s one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter capped a 15-play, 83-yard drive, and gave the Tommies a 20-7 lead.

Adebayo’s 28-yard touchdown run with 5:55 to play closed out the scoring.

Marist is 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the PFL.

Marist hosts Drake at Tenney Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 16.

Kickoff is set for noon.
