USDA NRCS Awards $200k to NUFFI

NEWBURGH – USDA-NRCS announced a $200,000 Planning Grant to Newburgh Urban Farm and Food Initiative (NUFFI).

The purpose of grant – Creating a Comprehensive Master Plan for Urban Agriculture in the City of Newburgh NY- is to bring together community organizations and residents to create a plan for greater access to healthy, wholesome food for all Newburgh residents and forge a path to eliminate food insecurity in the City of Newburgh.

Ramona Burton, Chair of the NUFFI Board said, “We are thrilled by this recognition and the opportunity that we can work together to eliminate food insecurity in our City. We will soon be assembling a consortium of organizations throughout the City including city leadership, civic organizations, religious organizations, other not for profits and residents. We look forward to working with all of these stakeholders to benefit our city.”

“These projects nourish communities with fresh, healthy food; teach generations the joy and fulfillment of farming and partnerships; and produce environmental benefits by reducing food waste and creating compost that can be used in a variety of farming operations.”
