Senator Skoufis and Team Share Thanksgiving Bounty

NEWBURGH – Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) and his staff joined several local Thanksgiving events in recent weeks, distributing goods and festive nourishment to hundreds of local residents.

On November 13, Senator Skoufis joined the YIT (Yerik Israel Toney) Foundation’s annual Toy Drive and Fundraiser at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center, encouraging community members to trade a toy for a special holiday gift, and offering low-cost meals to support families of premature infants, and veterans in need. The following week, on November 20, Skoufis and his team joined Pastor RD McLymore of Newburgh’s Life Restoration Church to donate and distribute canned goods and holiday turkeys to roughly fifty local residents. He also joined Deacon Jack Seymour of Newburgh Loaves and Fishes and other elected officials that morning to distribute festive goods to food-insecure families in the area.

On November 22, eight staff from the Senator’s office volunteered with the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley in Cornwall-on-Hudson, packing and preparing boxes of fresh produce to share with local families. Finally, on Tuesday of this week, Senator Skoufis teamed up with LIUNA Laborers’ Local 17 for their Pillows & PJs Holiday Giveaway event at Newburgh Armory Unity Center, delivering the comfort of a fresh pillow and a set of cozy pajamas to the city’s youngest residents.

“All New Yorkers deserve a warm meal and a sense of home during the holiday season,” said Senator Skoufis. “It was my honor to collaborate with local organizations to bring some Thanksgiving warmth and cheer during what, for many, is a time of instability and heartache. While we must remain focused on ending housing and food insecurity, it’s heartening to see so many generous neighbors stepping up in recent weeks to embrace their communities.”

Senator Skoufis and his team would like to wish all of our Orange, Rockland, and Ulster constituents a very happy Thanksgiving and start to the holiday season!
