WEST POINT – Army OLB Andre Carter was selected as an Associated Press All-American, announced by the Associated Press.
Sharing with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as one of two Independent FBS players selected as All-Americans in 2021, Carter amassed 14.5 total sacks, 16.0 tackles-for-loss, forced four fumbles, blocked one kick and snared one interception in 12 games played. Carter also recorded 38 total tackles, of which 30 were solo tackles to earn the third-team selection.
The junior outside linebacker has led the nation in total sacks at several points throughout the 2021 season, while currently ranking No.1 in the country for total sacks per game.
“Congratulations to Andre for earning a selection to the AP All-American team. We are all incredibly proud of him. Just as he is a difference-maker on the field, Andre also serves as an example as a West Point Cadet off the field. He is well deserving of this honor and the Army Football Brotherhood celebrates his recognition as one of college football’s best players,” said Black Knights Head Coach Jeff Monken.
Marking as the first Black Knight to garner the honor under Head Coach Jeff Monken, Carter joins alongside 62 Power 5 selections to the overall roster, among a Heisman Trophy Finalist on the Third-Team.
In addition to the AP All-American selection, Carter was also selected as Pro Football Network’s 2021 All-Independent Defensive Player of the Year, the 2021 Independent Defensive Lineman of the Year and was named to the First-Team All-Independent at the Edge position.
“It’s a blessing to be recognized. My teammates and I have been working hard all season, so it’s really amazing to be able to share in this with them as a reflection of all our hard work throughout this entire season,” said Carter.
Carter will close out the 2021 season appearing in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl against the Missouri Tigers
