Marist’s Fields Named AP’s FCS All-American

POUGHKEEPSIE – Red-shirt junior safety Clayborne Fields III of the Marist football team was named a Third Team Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-American by the Associated Press.

In the 2021 season, Fields had team highs of five interceptions and five pass break-ups, and recorded 59 tackles. His interception rate of 0.5 per game led the Pioneer Football League (PFL) and currently ranks sixth in the FCS. His average of 1.0 passes defended per game (five interceptions and five break-ups in 10 games) ranks 40th in the FCS.

Fields closed out the season with interceptions in each of his last three games. He also had back-to-back games with an interception earlier in the season, and had either an interception or break-up in nine of Marist’s 10 games. Fields also had two tackles for loss and half a sack this season as he was named Second Team All-PFL.

Previous Red Foxes who earned FCS All-American honors include Juston Christian (2018), Zach Adler (2014), Terrence Fede (2013), and Phede Celestin (2013). Aaron Acosta was named an FCS Freshman All-American in 2019.

The Marist football team had a 5-5 overall record in the 2021 season, and went 5-3 in PFL play.
