Christmas Tree Recycling Returns

NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh and the Conservation Advisory Council are pleased to announce the return of the Christmas Tree Recycling Program.

Starting on December 29, 2021, through January 7, 2022, city residents will have the opportunity to recycle their natural holiday trees free of charge by dropping them off at the parking lot at 401 Washington Street between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

On January 8, 2022, DPW staff will be on-site from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to cut holiday trees into wooden chips. Once trees are chipped, Conservation Advisory Council volunteers will distribute recyclable paper lawn & leaf bags filled with fresh mulch which is great for protecting plants and can be used to make a winter bed for street trees.

City residents will be treated to a cup of cider, coffee, or donut while waving “Good-bye” to their holiday tree and saying “Hello” to their new pine chips on January 8. So, help wrap up the holidays with a Green start to the New Year.

Please be sure to remove and discard all stands, nails, ornaments, tinsel, and plastic items from trees before drop-off.
