GOSHEN – Orange County Legislator Katie Bonelli has been elected chairwoman of the lawmaking body for the new year.
She ascended to the chair late last year when longtime Chairman Stephen Brescia stepped down over an inappropriate comment he made to a female county employee.
Bonelli, who has been a legislator for 12 years and was Republican majority leader until she moved up, said the county has made it through the though times of 2021 with COVID and its many challenges.
“The upcoming year will continue to be filled with unique challenges as we work together for a healthier world and cope with the ongoing pandemic. The road ahead will not be an easy one; however, I am confident that if we continue to operate as a unified body, we will be successful in keeping Orange County fiscally a sound and health county for years to come,” she said.
The only member of the 21-member body to vote against Bonelli’s appointment was Brescia.
