Army Women’s Tennis Cruises to First Win

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Army West Point women’s tennis picked up its first win of 2021-22 on Saturday with a 7-0 sweep of Bradley University in Chicago, Ill. The Black Knights also sent a group down to New Jersey to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights of the BIG 10. Although they did not have the same success, the Black Knights battled the Scarlet Knights, eventaully falling by a score of 6-1.

Over in Chicago, the Cadets breezed past the Braves to earn the doubles point. Stephanie Dolehide and Caroline Vincent posted a 6-1 win while Paola Bou and Sophie McKenzie added a 6-4 decision to clinch the point for Army.

In singles action, Dolehide had the largest margin of victory at the first pairing, winning her match 6-1, 6-0. Bou had no problems over on the third court, winning her match 6-0, 6-2.

Vincent, Justine Dondonay and Carolyn Ahn all added singles win on the second, fourth and fifth courts, respectively. Bradley could not field a sixth player, which boosted the score to a 7-0 Black Knights win.

Down in New Jersey, the Cadets gave the Scarlet Knights a fight on their home courts. After surrendering the doubles point, the Black Knights looked to answer in singles play.

Cooper Jackson earned the lone win for Army on the first singles court with a thrilling three-set win, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6. Jenna Sabile nearly earned the win on the fifth court, but fell in a tiebreaker, 2-6, 7-6, 5-10. Julia Kelly suffered the same fate on the sixth court falling after a hard-fought 1-6, 6-4, 5-7 match.
