New Paltz Equestrian NCEA Collects 5-3 Win

AUBURN, AL — The State University of New York at New Paltz finished the weekend at Auburn University with a 5-3 win over Dartmouth Saturday.

After opening up the weekend with losses against the hosting Tigers and Sewanee Friday, the Hawks rebounded with their second victory of the season after out-scoring the Big Green, 580.5-564.

Seraphina Morreale and Devyn Looney both earned victories in fences. Morreale, riding Player, defeated Dartmouth’s Chloe Terestchenko, 78-75 and had the highest score in the event. Looney edged Claire Azar, 71-65 on Cartoon. Brynley Smith scored a solid 76 in the event, riding Neto, but was a point shy of the Big Green’s Rachel Freer.

SUNY New Paltz was impressive in flat, winning three of four matchups. Devyn Looney, riding Jake, collected her second win of the day after defeating Freer, 72-68. Morreale scored the highest once again en route to defeating Azar, 73.5-70 on Cantori. Alanna Ryan concluded the day, defeating Tori Bergstein 70.5-67 on Nonstop. Smith once again was just edged out, scoring 71.5 points to Terestchenko’s 72 with both riding Izzo.

Next up for the Hawks is an IHSA Show at Marist Feb. 12 with the team’s next NCEA meet coming on Feb. 26 at Lynchburg.
