Marist Women’s Defeated in Close Matchup

BUFFALO – The Marist women’s basketball team dropped a close Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup against Canisius Saturday afternoon, 65-61. The Red Foxes overall record falls to 6-16 and 4-10 in MAAC play.

In the first 2:54 of the game Marist went on an early 9-2 run.

The Red Foxes held the lead entering the second quarter, 16-11. Marist would go on another 8-0 run to start the quarter extending their lead to 24-11.

For the half, Marist shot .371 percent from the field and .125 from three. Canisius shot .222 from the field in the first half, and .125 from three.

The Golden Griffs entered the second half going on a 7-0 run. The Red Foxes followed with their own 7-0 run.

The Griffs would battle back further but Marist held onto its lead to end the third quarter, 44-39.

With 4:28 remaining in the fourth, Canisius would take their first lead of the game from a three-pointer by Athina Lexa.

After a back-and-forth final five minutes, the Griffs would emerge victorious coming up with timely baskets and stops.
