Orange County Dems Endorse Candidates

GOSHEN – A new Democratic candidate has emerged in the race for the State Senate set currently held by Republican Michael Martucci.

Orange County Democratic Committee Chairman Brett Broge said Michael Berean, who announced his intention to seek the Democratic nomination for that post has withdrawn from the multi-county race and Broge’s committee, meeting Thursday evening, endorsed Eric Ball, a trustee in the Village of Walton.

The Orange County committee also endorsed Zak Constantine of New Windsor to run for the State Assembly seat being vacated by Republican Colin Schmitt of New Windsor, who is challenging Congressional Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney of Cold Spring, who won the Orange County committee’s endorsement.

In the newly created Assembly district that covers portions of six counties including Orange, Sullivan and Ulster, the Orange County Democratic Committee endorsed Matt McKey of Ulster County.

The Orange committee also backed incumbent Assembly Members Jonathan Jacobson of Newburgh and Aileen Gunther of Forestburgh and Senator James Skoufis of Cornwall.

A political newcomer, Bernie Rivers of Goshen, was endorsed to run for Orange County sheriff.
