ORANGE, CA – It was another solid victory for the Vassar women’s tennis team as the Brewers concluded their California trip with a 6-3 win over Chapman University on Saturday afternoon. With the win, VC improves to 8-1 on the season, while the Panthers are now 3-2.
Doubles action saw the Brewers jump out to a 3-0 lead, paced by the second flight as junior Tatum Blalock and rookie Macey Dowd recorded an 8-4 win over Lucy Erickson and Alexis Golin. Next off was the duo of senior captain Cara Kizilbash and rookie Elyse Duley as they bested Goldie La and Raquel Fhima by an 8-7 (7-1) score.
The Brewers wrapped up doubles from one as sophomore Sofie Shen and senior captain Melina Stavropoulos gutted out an 8-7 (9-7) win against Olivia Desso and Aliya Allyn.
In singles action, the Panthers gained a point back from the first flight as Allyn won by retirement over Blalock. Chapman closed the gap to 3-2 win a win at four as Desso defeated Stavropoulos, 6-4, 6-4, while the Brewers battled back at five, taking the 4-2 lead as Kizilbash won by retirement over Erickson.
Chapman once again narrowed the deficit, making it a 4-3 match score as Golin posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Shen at three, but Duley powered her way to a 6-1, 7-6 (9-7) win from six to secure the match victory, while Dowd closed out the win at two, winning by retirement over La.
The Brewers are back in action on March 26 when they travel to RIT for a 3:30pm Liberty League match against the Tigers.
