Poughkeepsie Clinches Section 1 Class A Title

Not only did the Poughkeepsie Pioneers boys varsity basketball team beat Our Lady of Lourdes to win the Section 1 Class A title, but four of its members were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Coach Cody Moffett said JaySean Morgan, Jahlyl Morgan, Dahomey Francis and Daevon Robinson were all named to the team, with JaySean Morgan voted the MVP.

The hard-fought game had the Pioneers down 17-4 early on, but they were able to rebound.

“What turned the tide is we finally settled down on our offense and homed in on our defense which let us play offense,” Moffett said. “They stayed locked and focused and we just kept chipping away.”

Calling Lourdes a “tough team,” Moffett said he believes the team’s “confidence and mental toughness is what took us over the hurdle.”
