Clock Tower Chimes After Decades Of Silence

WALDEN – The Walden Savings Bank Clock Tower at the corner of Bank and West Main streets in Walden chimed at 10 a.m. Monday to mark the bank’s 150th Anniversary. It rang the exact time of this bank’s very first deposit in 1872.

The bank’s officers have been working with village officials for quite some time, to have the chimes repaired, which have not rang in 30 years. Even Walden’s President/CEO Derrik Wyncoop was surprised at the variety of tunes it chimed. Wyncoop celebrated with numerous families who have a long history in Walden, including his own, which traces back more than a dozen local generations.

This financial institution stands as the 11th oldest in the nation. Commemorative coins recognizing the anniversary were specially minted for the occasion and included an engraved replica of the iconic clock tower.
