Marist Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Marist baseball team used a huge fourth inning to gain momentum and complete the three-game sweep of Monmouth with a 13-6 victory on Sunday afternoon.

After both teams were scoreless through the first three innings, Marist erupted in the fourth inning, scoring nine runs.

Brian Hart started it off with an RBI triple to score Johnny Decker. Dylan Hoy, Marco Ali, Gene Napolitano, and Reece Armitage each had an RBI single in the inning. Then Robbie Armitage hit a two-RBI double before Gavin Noriega hit a two-run home run to cap the inning off.

A Monmouth solo home run in the bottom of the fourth gave the Hawks their first run of the game. In the bottom of the fifth, Monmouth hit a grand slam to cut the lead to 9-5.

In the top of the seventh, Ali hit a sacrifice fly to score Hart. Later on in the inning a Reece Armitage bases-loaded single scored one to extend the lead to 11-5.

Napolitano hit a two-RBI single in the top of ninth inning to extend the lead to 13-5.

A Monmouth RBI single in the bottom of the ninth cut the lead to 13-6.
