“Take a Swing at Hunger” For Meals on Wheels

NEWBURGH – Meals on Wheels (MOW) of Greater Newburgh is hosting its second charity golf tournament, “Take a Swing at Hunger,” on Monday, July 25 at the historic Powelton Club in Newburgh.Proceeds will go to MOW, whose volunteers deliver hot, nutritious meals to elderly and disabled people in New Windsor and the City and Town of Newburgh.

Tournament Director and MOW Board Member Joe Dirago said, “the tournament goal is to raise $12,000 to provide a free year-long supply of meals for our neediest clients.”The organization receives no government funding and is seeking tax-deductible donations to sponsor golf holes and recognition in the event program. Corporate and individual donations are welcomed. Program ads and hole sponsorships range from $100 to $3,000, with in-kind donations for a Silent Auction gladly accepted.

The event will feature 18 holes of golf at the beautiful and prestigious Powelton Club course, one of the oldest and most scenic in the nation. The challenging course was designed by Devereux Emmet in 1923, and is meticulously maintained. “With a scramble format, this will be a fun day for golfers of all levels. Foursome registrations are welcome, but that is not necessary to play,” said Dirago. “Just register and we will pair you up with a group.”

Early reduced fee golf registrations are accepted until May 15; final deadline for golf and sponsorships is June 24.In addition to greens fees and cart, the registration fee also includes breakfast, bar cart, cocktail hour, dinner, dessert and prizes.
