Agriculture Students Host Two-Day Event

NEWBURGH – As part of our Farm to School efforts, students in the NECSD Empire Program’s Urban Agriculture course planned an interactive agriculture fair called AgriCon. Their extensive planning begin in August with this culminating event in May.

This event was held over the course of two days at NFA North, in the field to the west of the soccer field.

The students planned to include approximately twenty exhibitors who shared verbal, visual, and hands-on presentations on agriculture and agriculture-adjacent careers, topics and skills, including the benefits of eating fresh local produce and how to care for the earth. Exhibitors set up activities at tables under a large tent or under individual pop-up tents for students to interact.

Funding was provided by Our Core, the USDA, the Empire Program and several private contributions.

NECSD Empire Program’s Urban Agriculture course is taught by Ms. Christine Hutchinson.
