Black Knights Held By Huskies In Opener

WEST POINT – Senior captain Lauren Drysdale opened the scoring for the 2022 campaign as the Black Knights were held to a 1-1 tie by the UConn Huskies in an entertaining season opener on Thursday.

The Black Knights were five minutes away from starting the season with a win for the second time in the last three seasons.

The match was evenly played with both backlines and keepers limiting scoring chances.

Army broke the scoreless contest in the 75th minute from the penalty spot. Dara Murray was pushed in the box while on the receiving end of a thru ball into the box. Team co-captain Lauren Drysdale stepped up to take the penalty and she calmly slotted the ball into the corner of the net.

The Huskies went on the attack in search of the equalizer. Army keeper Sage Strohman made a fingertip save to deny Lucy Cappadona in the 83rd minute. However, the Huskies nabbed the game-tying goal two minutes later when Abbey Jones collected the ball in the box from a long ball and striking it into the top corner.
