March On for Brain Injuries Walk Names Honorees

HUDSON VALLEY – The Brain Injury Association of New York State (BIANYS) has announced that Jane and Joe Concato will be named as the Honorees at the organization’s annual March On for Brain Injury Walk on September 10, 2022. The couple will be recognized at the Hudson Valley walk, where they will have the opportunity to say a few words on the impact of a brain injury in their lives and how they turned to advocacy in the wake of recovery.

March 15, 2004 was a day Jane cannot remember, but one that will never be forgotten. It was that day she suffered a traumatic brain injury from falling down the stairs. In the subsequent year, she underwent acute care hospitalization, inpatient rehabilitation, cognitive, physical and speech therapies, and more than 12 months of outpatient therapies. Although she was dealing with her own injuries, the couple began to dedicate their lives to others that have been in a similar situation.

“All that Jane and Joe have done and continue to do is part of their passion to assist and provide support to those impacted by brain injury,” said Eileen Reardon, executive director of BIANYS. “Their strength and perseverance throughout Jane’s injury and beyond is admirable and we look forward to honoring them at the March On for Brain Injury Walk.”

The couple are proudly two of the founding members of the BIANYS Circle of Friends month giving program, which raises money to provide much needed financial assistance to families in need. They also jumped at the chance to be on the BIANYS Advisory Committee where they work to ensure the mission and goals of BIANYS continue to be focused on assisting those impacted by brain injury.

“While Jane’s recovery has been miraculous, BIANYS has supported us and given us the opportunity to continue to assist others,” said Joe Concato. “We humbly thank BIANYS for the honor to serve as the Honorees for the March On event at the Hudson Valley location, a beautiful setting where brain injury survivors, their families, and friends get together to celebrate each other’s achievements and journeys.”

The March On for Brain Injury Walk occurs in four locations (Hudson Valley, Long Island, New York City, Rochester) across New York State and brings together brain injury survivors, caregivers, and professionals to celebrate and honor members of the brain injury community.
