Mount Tennis Suffers Season Opening Loss

ONEONTA – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Team began its new season Saturday afternoon, suffering a 9-0 non-conference loss on the road at Hartwick. The season opener was the first of four straight on the road for the Knights to start the season.

Saturday’s loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 0-1 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 2-0 overall and 3-1 against the Knights dating back to 2017.

Hartwick took each of the three doubles matches from the Knights, opening a 3-0 advantage. The second pair of Victoria Valencia and Sadie McNair battled for the Mount before falling 8-4.

The Hawks went on to take each of the six singles matches to complete their second sweep in as many matches to start the season.

Julia Flynn put together a strong performance, falling 2-6, 3-6 with McNair suffering a 4-6, 1-6 loss at the fourth slot for the Knights.

Mount Saint Mary is off until September 9 when it travels to Danbury, Conn. to take on Western Connecticut.
