School Districts to Share $1M State Grant

MIDDLETOWN – State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D, Bronx) and Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D, Forestburgh) brought the City of Middletown, Town of Wallkill and Middletown Enlarged City School District an early Christmas present in the form of a shared $1 million grant.

Gunther said the funds will target safety in the community.

“These grants will go towards increasing public safety and better services and equipment for all of our children,” she said. “This area has seen such tremendous growth and revitalization the past few years and I think that is really due in part to the leadership that we have.”

The City of Middletown will use its funds for enhanced electronic monitoring for the police department. The Town of Wallkill will purchase its first ever body-worn cameras and the school district will create a community co-lab downtown for students to discuss concerns that may be on their minds.
