September Prostate Cancer Awareness Event

GOSHEN – Thursday, Orange County Legislators recognized September as Prostate Cancer Awareness by issuing a proclamation which honors patients and remembers those who lost the fight to this affliction.

This entire month- as is every month- the Legislators are committed to bringing PSA screenings and educational and nutritional awareness to the forefront. The hope is to defeat the stigma attached to the PSA community. Cancer prevention saves lives, while allowing survivor to thrive, enjoying long, full lives.

According to Luis Abramson, Prostate Cancer survivor and founder of Cultivating Healing and Justice Initiative (CHJI) Support Services Inc., Prostate Cancer remains the second leading killer of men in the United States; 1 in 8 will be diagnosed in a lifetime. African-American men are at a greater risk. Survivors often face multiple stressors, and Orange County Legislators want the community to know they are here to offer support, and no one need face this disease alone.
