POUGHKEEPSIE – Under sunny skies and great conditions, the Vassar College women’s cross country team posted its first victory of the 2022 season, winning the annual Ron Stonitsch Invitational on Saturday at the Vassar Farm. The Brewers compiled 41 points through the 5k course, edging out second-place NYU by five points for the win.
Senior Augusta Stockman paced the day’s effort, capturing the individual victory in a time of 19:14.0. Sophomore Noni Pattington took third overall, crossing in a time of 19:42.8, while junior Clara Wiesler was sixth with a mark of 20:00.6.
The Brewers saw sophomore Anna Kaigle finish 10th overall with a time of 20:20.3, while rookie Lily Shimpach rounded out the team scoring in 21st, crossing the finish line in 21:21.7.
Junior Amaavi Miriyagalla was 23rd on the afternoon, crossing in a time of 21:27.6, while sophomore Sophia Henderson posted 26th in 21:31.2. Rookie Emma Sandrew finished the day in a time of 21:31.4, followed by classmate Anika Mueller-Hickler who crossed the line in 21:36.7.
Sophomore Arlo Lennert posted a time of 22:23.8 in the 5k event, while freshman Nora Goldberg-Courtney had a mark of 22:58.6. Sophomore Sophie Farr rounded out the day’s efforts for the Brewers, posting a time of 23:54.4.
Overall, 92 competitors participated in today’s event, won by Vassar with 41 points. NYU took second with 46 points, followed by New Paltz (100), Marywood (121), LeMoyne (124), SUNY Delhi (146), Ramapo (147), Montclair State (234), Bridgeport (272) and Sarah Lawrence (312).
The Brewers women’s team is back in action on September 24th when it heads to the North Country, competing at the Ronald C. Hoffman Invitational at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.
