POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist Red Foxes football team dropped its second straight game to start the season by a score of 38-3 to Columbia at Tenney Stadium on Saturday.
Columbia capitalized on Marist’s two turnovers, turning those into two of their five scoring drives, including an interception returned for a touchdown in the third quarter.
In the second quarter, Marist wide receiver Matt Stianche hauled in a 37 yard pass from Brock Bagozzi which set up Marist on the Columbia side of the 50.
In the third quarter, Marist running back Glennmour Leonard-Osbourne caught a 24-yard pass from quarterback Diego Arroyo.
Diego Arroyo connected with wide receiver Brett Landis for a 36-yard pass in the third quarter.
Kicker Luke Paladino hit a 31-yarder with 1:10 left in the game to get the Red Foxes on the scoreboard.
The 11 tackles by Fields tied a career high. Dating back to last season, Fields has notched at least 10 tackles in three straight games.
Fields was followed by Tyler Ruscher and Camron Ball with nine tackles apiece. Both set career highs.
With six receptions for 80 yards, Brett Landis led the Red Foxes and set career high in both categories.
Columbia kicker Alex Felkins drilled a 53 yards field goal, a Tenney Stadium record previously held at 52 yards as time expired to end the first half.
Marist is now 0-6 against Columbia all-time. This was the Lions’ second trip to Tenney Stadium, with the first one coming in 2017.
