Annual Triumph Awards At Jazz at Lincoln Center

NEW YORK – Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network (NAN) marked the 12th Annual Triumph Awards at Jazz at Lincoln Center on Wednesday, September 28th. The awards recognize leaders in the entertainment industry who use their platforms to push for justice and equity across the nation.

“The Triumph Awards recognize those who go the extra mile – the leaders whose goal has not only been to make it, but guarantee everyone around them makes it too,” said Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of NAN. “This year we celebrated some of the best of the best, from media titans to on-the-ground leaders, who use culture to advance the cause. I want to thank them and the NAN staff for making this an event to remember.”

This year’s honorees included: power couple Sheryl Lee Ralph, the Emmy Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated actress, singer, author, and activist, and Vincent J. Hughes, the longtime State Senator for the Philadelphia Area and current Democratic Chairman of the Pennsylvania Senate Appropriations Committee; Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Academy Award-winning filmmaker, 6-time GRAMMY Award-winning musician, producer, DJ, director, culinary entrepreneur, and New York Times best-selling author; Will Packer, record-breaking film and television producer behind Will Packer Productions and Will Packer Media; the creators of HarlemWeek, an annual celebration of the best of Harlem which works to promote its rich African-American, African, Caribbean, Hispanic, and European history, as well as arts, culture, religion, business, entertainment, and sports; and Claire Sulmers, CEO and Founder of Fashion Bomb Daily, a direct-to-consumer fashion company that leverages content and community to power a multicultural shopping experience.
