NEWBURGH – The Mount Saint Mary College Women’s Tennis team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday with an impressive 7-2 conference victory over Sarah Lawrence. Prior to the match the three seniors on the team; Julia Flynn, Victoria Veloz-Vicioso and Victoria Ward were all recognized on Senior Day and each help support the victory for the Knights.
Mount Saint Mary grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles play with wins at the second and third positions. Katie Murray and Carly Green teamed at the second slot for an efficient 8-0 victory with Blanca Ayala Santana and Ward cruising to an 8-2 win at the third flight.
Mount Saint Mary went on to take five of the six singles positions against the Gryphons to finish off the victory. Sadie McNair earned her team leading seventh singles win of the season and moved to 4-1 at the second position with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph for the Knights.
Flynn won her second straight match for the Mount with an impressive 6-1, 6-2 victory, while Green cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the fourth slot, collecting her fourth straight win and her sixth singles victory over the season.
Veloz-Vicioso gutted out a hard fought 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 fifth singles win, her fourth of the year, with Victoria Valencia blanking her opponent at the sixth position, 6-0, 6-0.
Saturday’s triumph improves Mount Saint Mary to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play through regular season play.
