Army Black Knights Down Lafayette For Fifth Win

WEST POINT – The Army Black Knights notched their fifth consecutive win after defeating the Lafayette Leopards in four sets on Saturday afternoon on senior day.

Before the match, the program honored the senior class as captain Sayler Butters is the lone cadet-athlete in the class.

In the opening set, Army took a 3-0 lead but had to rally to win the set. The Leopards led 18-15 after breaking the 12-12 tie with a 6-3 spurt. Trailing 20-17, the Black Knights scored three straight points, with Julia Johnson contributing with a kill and an ace, to tie the set. Savannah Bray broke the 21-21 tie with a kill as Army scored four of the five final points.

The second set had seven ties and five lead changes with the Leopards taking the set after scoring four straight points, 25-21. The Black Knights bounced back in the third set. Army held off Lafayette to pull out a 25-22 win.

In the fourth set, the Black Knights closed the match with their offensive set. They finished with 16 kills, a .306 hitting percentage and 72 percent on sideouts which were all match-best numbers.
