O.C. DPW Finishes Work on Lake Horton Bridge

MOUNT HOPE – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus has announced the completion of the Lake Horton Bridge, which carries County Route 18 (New Vernon Road) over the Shawangunk Kill in the Town of Mount Hope.

This project is the second Orange County highway bridge reconstructed utilizing repurposed panels salvaged from the Tappan Zee Bridge when it was dismantled. The bridge design and construction were completed by the Orange County Department of Public Works.
“I am pleased that the Lake Horton Bridge has been revitalized in a safe and fiscally responsible manner,” Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus said. “We know how important this bridge is to residents and we are glad to see it fully opened again. Construction was performed in a timely manner, and I am proud that our DPW team took the initiative to repurpose the panels from the Tappan Zee Bridge and save taxpayers money.”

Orange County was one of the first counties in the State to utilize repurposed panels salvaged from the Tappan Zee Bridge when it was dismantled in the summer of 2017. The panels considerably shortened the Lake Horton Bridge project’s construction timetable and reduced its cost by approximately $165,000.
