Christiano Breaks the 1,000-Meter Record

WEST POINT – The Mount Saint Mary College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams opened the Indoor Season on Saturday at the Crowell Open hosted by Army West Point.

Christopher Christiano closed a big day with a new school record in the 1,000-meter run.
Christiano finished the 1,000-meter event in sixth place overall on Saturday and ran a time of 2:43.89. The time topped the previous school record of 2:44.93 that was set on February 18, 2017 by Adam Al-Haraizeh.

Michael Gillespie and Ramasoj Williams also turned in solid days on the track for the Knights, with Gilliespie placing 13th in the 200-meter dash and Williams claiming the 13th position in the 400-meter dash.

In the field events, Andrew Maloy turned in a 13th place finish for the Knights in the weight throw with a heave of 10.91 meters.

In the women’s meet, the Mount was led on the track by a pair of newcomers with Lily O’Brien and Sarah Kannenberg placing sixth and seventh in the 800-meters with times of 2:50.27 and 2:55.00.

In the field, Emily Schneider closed a strong season opener with a 15th place finish in the Shot Put and a 12th place showing in the Weight Throw. Schneider posted a mark of 7.26 meters in the Shot Put and a mark of 11.00 meters in the Weight Throw.

Following Saturday’s strong season opener, the Mount will return to action in the Indoor Season on January 28 when it makes the first of two trips to Utica.
