Army Rebounds With Win Over Holy Cross

WEST POINT – Army West Point (12-11, 6-4) bounced back and got a much needed victory over the Holy Cross Crusaders (7-16, 4-6) by a score of 66-55 at Christl Arena on Saturday.

Freshman Ethan Roberts scored a team high 16 points on 4-8 shooting from three-point distance and Jalen Rucker contributed with 13 points and a team high nine rebounds.

Army led for the entire game on Saturday afternoon jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead and never looked back. Roberts connected on his first of four threes with 10:34 in the opening half extending the Army lead to 25-11. After a Charlie Peterson layup at the 5:51 mark, Army had its biggest lead of the afternoon, leading by 18, 32-14.

Roberts would splash his second three with four ticks left until halftime, as the Black Knights took a 39-22 lead into the break. Roberts scored 10 in the first half.

In the second half, Roberts was true on his third three at the 12:19 mark, pushing Army’s lead to 49-33.

Holy Cross would fight back going on its own quick 7-0 run, cutting Army’s lead down to seven, 54-47 with 7:37 to play.

The Black Knights quickly responded on Robert’s fourth three and then back-to-back baskets by Abe Johnson. Johnson saw important minutes down the stretch, scoring five of his nine points in the final five minutes to help Army hang on. His nine points match his career high.

Joe Octave scored 17, Gerrale Gates scored 14 and Caleb Kenney scored 11 to pace the Crusaders offense.
