Key Skyline Decision Dropped at Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE – The Mount Saint Mary College Men’s Basketball team took to the road Saturday evening for an important Skyline Conference game at Sarah Lawrence and was defeated by the Gryphons 84-61. Connor Cyran led three Knights in double-figures with 18 points.

Saturday’s loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 7-14 overall on the season and 4-8 in Skyline Conference play, while Sarah Lawrence improves to 6-15 overall and 4-8 in league play with two head-to-head victories over the Mount.

First Half
The two sides traded blows in the early going before a 7-0 run for the Gryphons moved them in front 10-3.

Justin DiFabio hit a three-pointer at the 13:19 mark of the first half to give Sarah Lawrence a 16-5 advantage.

DiFabio canned another trey at the 11:43 mark to get Sarah Lawrence out in front 19-7.
Following the DiFabio three-pointer, the Sarah Lawrence advantage would not fall below double-figures the rest of the way.

Eamon Kelly buried a three-pointer at the 8:47 to give the Gryphons a 26-11 lead.

A Cyran layup with 7:33 left before halftime cut the Mount’s disadvantage to 27-16, but that would be as close as it would get the rest of the night.

Sarah Lawrence closed the half on a 17-3 run to carry a commanding 44-19 lead into the intermission.

Mount Saint Mary was held to 26.9-percent shooting prior to halftime and went without a three-pointer in nine attempts.

Sarah Lawrence shot just over 48-percent in the opening half, including a 9-for-19 effort from three-point range.

Cyran led the Mount with nine of their 19 points in the opening 20 minutes.

DiFabio came off the bench to score 17 points for Sarah Lawrence on the strength of 5-for-7 shooting from behind the arc.

Second Half
Mount Saint Mary would not be able to climb closer than 20 points in the second frame.
Chris Dougherty gave Sarah Lawrence a game-high 75-43 lead with a three-pointer at the 6:28 mark of the second half.

A pair of Jose Figueroa free-throws got the Mount to within 81-61 in the final half-minute.
Aidan Joyce connected on the Gryphons’ 14th three-pointer of the game with 20 seconds left to give them the final 84-61 advantage.

Mount Saint Mary shot 33.3-percent in the second half, including 3-for-9 from three-point range.

Sarah Lawrence converted at an efficient 54.2-percent, including 5-for-8 from three-point range.

Elijah Barnett, Cyran and Miles Calame all scored nine points in the second half.

DiFabio added 10 more second half points for the Gryphons.

For The Knights
Cyran finished the game 7-for-10 from the floor, adding four rebounds and three steals.

Barnett finished with 11 points and led the team with six rebounds and four steals.

Calame netted a season-high 10 points.

Ryan Graham joined Barnett with a team-high four steals and chipped in five points.

Jayden Figueroa collected five rebounds and blocked three shots.

For The Gryphons
DiFabio led all scorers with 27 points, going 9-for-12 from the field and 7-for-10 from three-point range.

Kelly scored 13 points and handed out four assists.

Lucas Murray netted 10 points and collected five rebounds.

Dougherty led all players with eight rebounds and four blocks, adding seven points.
