Vassar’s Strong Finish at AARTFC Championships

NEW YORK – The Vassar College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams finished strong in its first-ever trip to the AARTFC Indoor Championships at the Armory in New York City.
The Women’s 1 Mile run opened the day for the Brewers as senior Augusta Stockman finished in 22nd place in a time of 5:19.48. In the men’s race, sophomore Tim Buchan posted a personal-best 4:17.38 for a eighth place finish.

In the women’s 60-meter dash finals, sophomore Traci Francis recorded a time of 7.81 and finished second overall for Vassar. Next was the men’s 800-meter run as junior Tim Jacques finished in 16th overall with a personal record time of 1:57.26 while classmate Simon LaClair finished in 35th overall in 2:07.23.

Stockman also competed in the women’s 3000-meters as the senior finished eighth overall with time of 10:18.20. In the women’s 200-meters, junior Ava Novak posted a time of 26.32 and finished 28th overall. The women’s 200-meter relay team of freshman Jahmilia Dennis, Francis, Novak and senior Malinda Smith finished 15th in 1:50.49.

In the field events, senior Lola Perez-Fry was 13th in the women’s long jump with a mark of 5.21m. Freshman Jahmilia Dennis scored a sixth place finish in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 11.18m and junior Heather Kwafo was 23rd at 10.51m.

The Brewers will head to the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational from March 16-18 in Myrtle Beach, SC.
