Black History Celebrated at Desmond Center

NEWBURGH – In celebration of Black History Month, Mount Saint Mary College’s Desmond Center for Community Engagement and Wellness recently presented “Healing and Mental Health Arts Showcase of Local Black Artists.”

The event brought together mental health awareness and the arts through paintings, poetry, and more. The well-attended presentation featured local Black artists, including Torrance Harvey, Newburgh mayor and 2003 Mount grad; Ahmad Cohen, Newburgh artist; Mariah Henry, a born and raised Newburgh native; and visual artist Auguster D. Williams, Jr. of PuzzlePieceArts. The event also featured a discussion of mental health and wellness by Dr. Agathe Pierre-Louis, psychologist.
