Vassar Brewers Strong Finish at Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Vassar College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams finished a strong two days of competition at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

On the track, freshman Lily Shimpach finished 28th overall in the women’s 300-meters with a time of 12:12.31. Senior Augusta Stockman put together another strong race in the women’s 1 mile as she finished 12th overall in 5:23.13 and was the second highest DIII finisher. Rookie Anika Mueller-Hickler recorded a 19th place overall finish in 5:29.96.

In the men’s 400-meters, freshman Nick Miller finished 35th with a time of 55.19. Next up was the women’s 400-meter hurdles as rookie Freja Niklasson tallied a 26th place finish in 1:13.41. Sophomore Max Bergman crossed the finish line in 27th place in 1:03.06 in the men’s 400-meter hurdles.

Junior Ava Novak was the top finisher in the women’s 200-meters for the Brewers as she finished 23rd overall in 26.65. Freshman Jamie Eu was 56th in 27.65, junior Nora Jensen finished in 28.45 and senior Malinda Smith crossed the finish line in 28.62. In the men’s race, junior Darnell Worley was 42nd overall with a time of 23.52 and rookie Jacob Sellitti crossed the finish line in 25.66.

The women’s 4×400 relay of Niklasson, junior Ava Waters, junior Laura Wong and Novak scored a 14th place finish in 4:24.31 while the men’s relay of Worley, junior Tim Jacques, Miller and Bergman finished ninth overall with a time of 3:29.15.

In the field events, sophomore Soleil Yuong was 52nd in the women’s shot put with a mark of 8.69m while freshman Lila Miller finished back-to-back with a mark of 8.68m.

Sophomore Jeremy Frank finished 10th in the men’s pole vault at 3.96 meters while Yuong tallied an 29th place finish with a mark of 30.23 meters in the women’s discus throw.

Vassar will return to action at the Monmouth University Season Opener on March 24-25.
