Marist Softball’s Winning Streak Reaches Six

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Marist softball team has won six in a row after a doubleheader sweep against Saint Peter’s on Saturday at Gartland Field. The Red Foxes prevailed by scores of 1-0 and 8-5.

Game One
The game’s lone run came in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Isabella Manory was hit by a pitch, which forced home pinch-runner Kaitlyn Husic.

Two outstanding defensive plays helped hold Saint Peter’s scoreless. In the top of the third, the Peacocks had runners on the corners with two outs, but Sam Freeland’s diving stop at
second base led to a force play which ended the inning. In the top of the sixth with two outs and a runner on second, Shea Walsh made a diving catch on a sinking liner in right field.

Calista Phippen threw a three-hitter and struck out five while only allowing two walks.
Sydney Senerchia went the distance for Saint Peter’s and allowed just five hits.

Game Two
Marist scored seven runs in the second. The Red Foxes had eight hits and sent 12 runners to the plate in the inning. Maddie Pleasants led it off with a home run, and Ronni Howard had a three-run homer.

The Red Foxes added a run in the sixth when Freeland’s double brought home Peyton Pusey, who reached on a one-out single.

Kiley Myers went the distance and allowed just four hits and zero walks. She retired the first 14 Peacocks she faced, and needed just 86 pitches to go the distance.

Pusey, Freeland, and Alyssa Grupp all had two hits for Marist, which had 11 as a team.

Anya Kane homered for Saint Peter’s, which scored four times in the top of the seventh.
