Vassar’s Jahmilia Dennis Wins Triple Jump

ROCHESTER – The Vassar College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field team concluded action at the 2023 Liberty League Outdoor Championships on Saturday afternoon at the University of Rochester. Freshman Jahmilia Dennis was the champion of the women’s triple jump for Vassar while the men’s team finished in seventh overall with 19 points while the women’s team finished in a tied for fifth place with RIT with 78 points.

Sophomore Max Bergman recorded a fifth place finish in the men’s decathlon as he scored sixth place finishes in 110-meter hurdles and the pole vault along with seventh place finishes in the javelin throw and the 1500-meters. Sophomore Faye Stevens was third in the women’s heptathlon as she was second in the 800-meters in 2:28.97 and third in the long jump at 4.99 meters. Freshman Lila Miller recorded a sixth place finish and was second in the javelin throw at 27.78 meters.

The women’s 4×100 relay of freshman Jamie Eu, junior Ava Novak, senior Lola Perez-Fry and sophomore Traci Francis scored a second place finish in an AARTFC time of 48.77. The men’s relay of sophomore Jae Young Seo, junior Darnell Worley, senior Tucker Quinlan and freshman Jacob Sellitti were sixth overall with a time of 44.74.

In the women’s 1500-meters, sophomore Sophia Henderson was eighth overall in an AARTFC time of 4:50.64 while freshman Anika Mueller-Hickler was ninth in 4:55.66 and senior Augusta Stockman was 10th in 4:58.08. Sophomore Tim Buchan was 10th in the men’s race in an AARTFC time of 3:59.47.

Dennis placed fourth overall in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with an AARTFC time of 14.65 and junior Nora Jensen was eighth in a time of 16.13. Francis scored a third place finish in the women’s 100-meters in an AARTFC time of 12.44 while Novak was fifth overall with an AARTFC mark of 12.60.

Henderson placed sixth overall in the women’s 800-meters in 2:23.40 while junior Tim Jacques recorded a fifth place finish and posted a strong AARTFC time of 1:55.29.

In the women’s 400-meter hurdles, junior Laura Wong was sixth overall in 1:08.60 and freshman Freja Niklasson was seventh in a time of 1:08.79. Senior Lukas Muzila recorded a seventh place finish in the men’s race as he posted a time of 59.02.

Novak posted another strong race in the women’s 200-meters in an AARTFC time of 25.67. Sophomore Noni Pattington posted a strong time of 18:04.42 in the women’s 5000-meters to finish fourth overall while Stockman was sixth overall in 18:14.52 and Mueller-Hickler was eighth in 18:30.37.

Vassar’s women’s 4×400 relay of freshman Margaret McLaughlin, senior Ava Waters, Henderson and senior Trina Chou finished fifth overall in a time of 4:12.70. The men’s relay of Worley, sophomore Nick Miller, Jacques and Muzila tallied a fourth place finish in a time of 3:24.80.

In the field events, sophomore Emily Tincher posted a mark of 8.89 meters in the women’s shot put. Dennis then recorded a first place finish and was the individual champion in the women’s triple jump at 11.72 meters. Junior Heather Kwafo finished seventh with a mark of 10.84 meters.

Sophomore Elinor Kops tallied a sixth place finish in the women’s high jump at 1.48 meters along with freshman Justin White finishing 21st with a mark of 12.01 meters in the men’s shot put. Sophomore Soleil Yuong was the top finisher in the women’s discus throw at 31.23 meters.

RPI was victorious on the men’s side as they finsihed with 224 points while Rochester was second with 215 points and RIT was third with 172. On the women’s side, Rochester earned the win with 223.5 points, narrowly edging Ithaca who had 220 points.

Vassar will head to the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet on Monday, May 15th.
