Tim Buchan Sets 1500- Meters School Record

SELINSGROVE, PA – The Vassar College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams competed in the second day of the 2023 AARTFC Outdoor Championships on the campus of Susquehanna University on Thursday afternoon. The Brewers had student-athletes competing in the final stages of the decathlon and the heptathlon as well as the women’s triple jump, men’s 1500-meters, women’s 400-meters, men’s 800-meters, women’s 200-meters and the men’s 4×800 relay.

Sophomore Max Bergman finished the men’s decathlon in 10th place overall as he posted an 11th place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in a new personal best time of 18.69 followed by a personal best mark of 21.49 meters in the discus throw for another 11th place finish.

He tallied a fifth place finish in the pole vault at 3.40 meters before finishing seventh in the javelin with a throw of 37.18 meters. Bergman posted a time of 5:14.60 to finish 10th in the 1500-meters to score a 10th place finish at 4752.

Sophomore Faye Stevens recorded a strong eighth place finish in the women’s heptathlon after posting a eighth place finish in the long jump at 4.80 meters and was fourth in javelin with a personal best throw of 29.77 meters. Stevens put together an impressive race in the 800-meters as she finished second overall in a time of 2:31.17 for an eighth place finish at 3833.

On the track, sophomore Tim Buchan posted a new Vassar record time of 3:57.50, breaking Jack Casalino’s record of 3:57.83 set in 2022, in the men’s 1500-meters for a 12th place finish while classmate Jose Magana was 21st for the Brewers in a time of 4:01.30. Next up was senior Trina Chou in the women’s 400-meters as she scored a 34th place finish in 1:01.05.

Junior Tim Jacques scored a strong 11th place finish in a time of 1:54.89 in the men’s 800-meters while junior Ava Novak earned a top 20 finish with a time of 26.09 in the women’s 200-meters for Vassar. The men’s 4×800 relay of Buchan, sophomore Nick Miller, Jacques and Magana placed sixth overall, crossing the finish line in 7:59.18.

In the lone field event for Vassar on the day, freshman Jahmilia Dennis qualified for the finals of the women’s triple jump as she ranked sixth overall with a mark of 11.39 meters.
